Real name Anthony Newman, ‘Itchy’ was born and raised in Manchester (UK).
After purchasing Prodigy’s ‘Music for the jilted generation’ at the age of nine Itchy was quickly converted to the world of electronic music. Fascinated by the heavy bass lines mixed with dysfunctional beat alchemy and cinematic samples he was hooked. This new found obsession led him on a journey of discovery listening to everything from the dark and aggressive sounds of Helter Skelter’s ‘Technodrome’ through to the deep, melodic beats of The Beloved.
At the age of 16 Itchy bought his first pair of turntables and with being heavily influenced at the time by Ben Sims, Jeff Mills and Marco Carola he developed a love for percussive and tribal techno. Then in the summer of 2007 he worked his first season in Ibiza spending most Mondays on the terrace of DC10 followed by Cocoon at Amnesia watching the likes of Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Loco Dice, Tiefschwarz, Cirillo, Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos, It was at this point he knew he had found something he really connected with and after switching from vinyl to CD’s he started to find and develop his own style shaped by the many influences which can also be said for his production.
Today, after spending years of perfecting his own sound, Itchy is now releasing groovy, percussive tracks with driving tech house beats which sit perfectly on today’s dancefloors.
UK based Itchy Newman delivers “Reservoir EP”. There aren’t really any ‘WTF!’ moments, mind-bending sonics or dramatic narrative twists, but a clear attention to crafting extended and deeply pleasing music. There’s plenty of room for the kind of subtle transformation that Itchy Newman is known for. In its simplest form, a subconsciously catchy melody atop minimal house beat, so what’s not to like? Maybe it’s just that – how easy it is to enjoy.
